In continuation of our series on how to wear the boyfriend jean, this week I’m going to discuss styling this trend to be more work appropriate. While my first look in this series is perfectly accetable for my job, I know that many of you out there aren’t able to wear jeans to work at all, let alone styled with a t-shirt! If you fall under that category, this look easily translates to a casual date night outfit (in fact I actually wore this for a nice dinner out).
In this look, I’m playing more with proportions. The jean is loose and baggy, so I added a tailored white blouse (a closet staple) and a structured navy blazer (another wardrobe necessity). Since I was pairing all neutrals, I added leopard print pumps and a raspberry polka dot scarf to bring some color and variation to the look and prevent it from being a snoozefest.

This isn’t rocket science since you are, afterall, working with denim, however it can be tricky to find items that work when you’re wearing a style/fit of jean that’s outside of your comfort zone. I can’t emphasize the importance of proportions enough, and while I wore a loose fitting t-shirt with my boyfriend jeans in the first look, I made sure to tuck it in to avoid looking completely shapeless.
Remember to always find balance in your looks. Loose on top? Wear something fitted on the bottom, or belt the waist to emphasize your shape. Loose on bottom? Wear a structured top. Achieve balance to avoid looking disheveled in this relaxed trend.
